Local & Self-published Authors

Our policy

At The Berwyn Bookshop, we remain completely supportive and appreciative of authors, writers and artists, and wholeheartedly commend and congratulate you on your achievement. Writing a book is no easy task, but you have done it - so very well done!

The following guidelines are specific to our shop, but may well serve as general guidance beyond this, however we recommend you research individual retailers, in particular independent booksellers, and their specific policies.

Nevertheless, should you be a local or self-published author, please read on if you are considering approaching us in relation to us stocking your work.

Please note, we are a small, independent retailer, and whilst we would love to be able to stock every book in existence, it is simply not possible.

Traditionally Published

If you are an author who is published by a traditional publisher, whether that be anybody from major publishing houses (HarperCollins, Hachette, etc.) or smaller independent presses, it is highly likely we will already have received press releases and marketing information with regards to your work. That said, you are welcome to contact us just in case sales reps have not noticed your locality to us, and we will be sure to check if your work is a good fit for our shop.

Disclaimer: Please note, that there are many 'publishers' which offer services in return for payment from the authors. These are normally considered 'vanity publishers', and it is unlikely that we will be willing to stock such works. Vanity publishers are not traditional publishers.

Self-published

If you have published your book independently, we welcome a single pitch via email. Please include as much information as is appropriate - there are many helpful resources available online, but book cover, blurb, brief author bio, RRP, ISBN and distribution info are vital.

In order for us to be able to stock a book, the following are required:

  • ISBN
  • Printed Barcode
  • Printed Price (RRP)

In addition, we urge you to consider the marketibility of the book. Despite the saying, books ARE judged by their covers, so ensuring your book is visually appealing is highly recommended. Also, we do not take on ANY work which has been produced with the use of AI, whether that be the content itself, or even the book cover.

There are a number of different agreements we make with the local authors we stock, and should we agree to stock your book, we are open to discussion on this. A common option is shelf-placement, in which we allow work to have a spot on our shelves - the stock remains property of the author, and we collect a commission on any items sold.

Should we agree to stock your book, there are terms and conditions which will apply.

To enquire about us stocking your book/s, please email us - hello@berwynbookshop.co.uk

Please do not make unsolicited approaches in person, as we do not have time to discuss in the shop, unless an appointment has been made. Thank you for understanding.
